Crust:
2 c. flour
1 c. shortening
1 t. salt
Cut flour with shortening and salt.
Add:
2-6 T. ice water (depends upon humidity)
Filling:
7-12 Macintosh Apples
1 c. sugar
1 T. flour
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. vanilla
Mix. Let sit. Place in 9" crust. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Dot with butter. ADd 1 T. water if it seems dry.
Bake for 10 minutes at 500 degrees, then 50 minutes at 350 degrees. You can tell it is cooked all the way by cutting a knife through the apples - no resistance means they are cooked all the way. Drape with tinfoil to avoid edges being burned.
