Mom used to make this a lot when we were kids. Goes well with Marilyn's Black Cake.
1 c. shortening or part butter
7 c. powdered sugar
1/2 t. salt
2 t. vanilla
4 t. water
2 unbeaten egg white
Cream shortening. Add 1 cup sugar, salt, vanilla and water. Stir until blended an dbeat until smooth. Add another cup of sugar, egg whites and the remaining sugar beating well after each addition. Add a little more water, if needed.
