Swilly's Nanaimo Bars

3/4 c. + 1 T. butter
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg
4 T. cocoa
2 c. graham cracker crumbs
1 c. grated coconut
1/2 c. chopped nuts
3 T. milk
2 T. vanilla custard mix
2 c. powder sugar, sifted
4 squares semi sweet chocolate

In a double boiler, combine 1/2 c. butter, white sugar and cocoa powder.  Stir until melted & smooth.  Beat in the egg, stirring until thick, 2-3 minutes.  Remove from heat and mix in the graham cracker crumbs, coconut and nuts.  Press into the bottom of an ungreased 8" x 8" pan.

For the middle layer, cream together 1/2 c. butter, heavy cream and custard powder until light and fulffy.  Mix in the powdered sugar until smooth.  Spread over the bottom layer in the pan.  Chill to set.

While the second layer is chilling, use the double boiler to melt the semisweet chocolate and 2 teaspoons butter together.  Spread over the chilled bars.  Let stand until firm.  Cut in to 36 bars.
